Comments:I was so sorry to hear about Rick. He and I worked together at ADP quite some time ago. He was amazingly talented and always looking for ways to improve things. He thought outside of the box and loved to collaborate. Rick helped bring down barriers and I truly enjoyed brainstorming with him. I often think of some happy-hours across the street. He laughed often. He truly loved his Kelly and Quin, and his team adored him. I am truly saddened by his passing and pray for all he left behind. -Sam

Good Ol' Downey High School
Comments:Dear Kelly and Quinn, I just learned from Gary (through FB) about Rick's passing. This news saddened me very much. Rick and I met in our freshman year at high school and I always thought of him as one of my really good friends who always made me laugh! I had not seen him since around 1991 but would think about him from time to time and would wonder what he was up to, along with the rest of our friends from school. From looking at the pictures on his website, it is so apparent that you and he shared something really special and I'm so happy for him that he was able to have experienced that happiness in his life and to have had such an adorable little boy to carry on his spirit. While time has passed and the pain may subside a litle, I'm sure it will never completely go away, so I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless both of you as you continue on in your journey we call life and as you raise your precious little guy with Rick watching over the both of you from above

Comments:I met Richard in High School and he used to drive past my house late at night with all his buddies and honk the horn until all the lights turned on in my house and my dad came out -It was something I started looking forward to every weekend as it was silly high-school stuff! I am sorry I didn't have the chance to know him as a grown man and adult as his family and friends speak very highly of him. He was a generous and funny person as a teen and I appreciated the chance to know him at school. We just celebrated our 30th reunion this weekend and I am sorry to hear about his passing. I send my best to the family and just want to let you know you had a cool dad and a special person in your life! Downey High Class of 1979 will miss him!

Paige and I went out with Rick several times and he seemed liked such a special man. I know this is a terrible loss for Page and Dave, they have always spoke so fondly of growing up with the Cunningham brothers. From reading your guestbook it is extremely apparent how Rick affected many of the lives around him.

Comments:Dear Kelly and Quinn, I'm Dave's sister Paige and we grew up with Rick and Darren and Nancy and Gary. I'm so terribly sorry about Rick's passing and the terrible pain and loss are going through. My brother only just emailed the news from Darren about Rick so I"m so sorry that I did not get to offer my condolences to you a year ago. God bless whoever created this website otherwise I would not have had the opportunity to reach out. Dave and I always have a special place in our hearts for all the Cunninghams but have foolishly not kept in touch well enough. I did not know Rick was terminal and can only imagine how difficult it was for him to undergo treatment and know he had to leave you and Quinn. We have never met, so I can only say that I would have, and still will, offer my prayers and support. My heart breaks for Nancy as well because to lose a child at any age has to be one of the worst life experiences ever. Please email me at let me know how you and Quinn are doing. Lov

As in your case my wife was very young at 35 years old. We have 3 beautiful children together and is what keeps me moving forward. All though we may never understand the reason for God taking Rick or my wife Kim so early in life one thing is for sure he is in control and will not give us anything we can not handle. Rick always had a smile on his face when I saw him. He is a great man. If you need to talk or would like me to pray with you I am available anytime day or night. God Bless you both. Comments:Kelly and Quinn, On behalf of the Schutte family, I want to extend our prayers and condolences on Rick's passing. I have such endearing memories of Rick during our childhood as we spent many weekends and holidays together with the Cunningham family. After reading the many wonderful guest book entries, it is obvious that Rick left the same lasting impression with many of his friends and family members. Rick had a great since of humor, though often very subtle in nature. As kids, we spent many days skateboarding, playing baseball and video games and listening to music. May you find peace and comfort knowing that Rick is with his father and his spirit will live on forever!

Comments:Kelly and Quinn, constant memories of your family and mine go through my mind every day. I wouldnt trade the times we have shared for the world. Rick was like an uncle to me, he was always thinking about me. For my 16th birthday he thought to buy me a pair of BEAUTIFUL earings, he was there at my high school graduation, and i remember him being so stoked when i got my "sonic blue" 99 ford mustang. The earliest memory i have of my entire life includes Rick. I was probably 5 years old and i remember rick playing with me at our house in whittier.I called him "Funny Rick" for the longest time because he would pick me up and hang me upside down, or he would go outside and put his finger throught the hole in the window screen and i would get the biggest kick out of it! Its dificult to think about, we all know that he is in a much BETTER place now and is not in any more pain from the trama he went though. My prayers are with you both. Love you lots

Please remember that friends are like stars, you may not always see them, but you always know they are there! No matter how far away we are, know that both of you are in our hearts. We feel blessed to have become friends with all of you through the gang. We have so many memories of Rick - KOA trips, hanging at your place or the Rutter place, and of course our great April 06 vacation. Rick was always so sweet with our kids - making sure Bryce had fun at Old Tuscon Studios, playing oreos with Shelby in the trailer and holding little Emma whenever I needed a free hand. We will miss Rick so much and can't wait to get back to give you two some hugs. Since we could not be there we will celebrate Rick in our own little way, we plan on heading outside to the camping chairs with a three cold bottles of Coors Light. Here's to you Rick, we love you!!

I have always found playing Hockey with or against someone you learn a great deal about the person (especially when the rink is the size of a squirrel cage). Rick always played hard, but he was never one to take cheap shots, he played a good clean game of Hockey. He was someone that I enjoyed playing against, and someone I would want on my team. We will never forget his smile, his sense of Humor, he is someone that was so easy to talk to, and a real pleasure to be around. Rick was a great Father, Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend... Comments:Going back some years I also recall the riding trips dating back to the old three wheelers we would take out to Windy Point near Palm Springs where we would play in the river and race through the dunes in a sort of follow the leader game. Those trips evolved and soon we all moved up to quads and out to Glamis where the riding got a little faster and the fun continued. In more recent years I'll always remember our countless camping trips and the good times we had hanging around, going on scooter rides, visiting the local sites and attractions and our family meals together. Those RV journeys sometimes got a little “uncomfortable” for Rick like the U turn in San Diego or the trip through Jerome; the cliffside town in central Arizona and he’d let you know in his way; an hour of silence and he was back to good ‘ol Ricker. Many, many miles and many more memories we’ll have forever. Our family trips to Big Bear Mountain where we all shared a cabin are also great memories that I’ll keep

I know your heart needs to heal and will always miss him dearly but know that a big peice of your heart is still and will always be Rick. Quinn is such a special young man and he will be able to keep Rick close at hand with all the special family and friends shared memories and his own memories that he also holds close to his heart. I will always remember Rick was such a good sport at Happy Hour events as the only guy and listning to all the "girl talk". I also shall think of him every time I think of playing Farkle..... He will truely be missed. Remember that if one person learns from Ricks struggles and takes care of themselves before Melanoma can take another friend or loved one Rick will smile from heaven knowing that his fight was won by saving someone else. I love you and will be here for you anytime.

Remember what remains is Faith, Hope and Love and the greatest of these is Love. Love never dies. I Corinthians 15 ... Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed. In a moment, in the twikling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality......then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? o grave where is thy victory? Therefore my beloved Sister, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Kelly, I pray that God will keep you and comfort you and Quinn during this very diffcult time and always. The Bible says, "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Comments:Dear Kelley and Quinn. We were all deeply saddened to hear of Rick’s passing and our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. While I only knew Rick professionally, it didn’t take long for me - or anyone else that had the pleasure of working with him, to figure out that Rick was truly an exceptional guy. No matter how crazy things got, Rick was always the personification of “Quiet Cool”. He was the calm inside the storm. Always positive, always supportive, always the Can-Do attitude that permeated everything he did and that smile that told you everything was going to be okay. It was reassuring just to be around him. He was arguably one of the best at his craft and a highly respected co-worker. In addition to that, it is no exaggeration to say he was not just well-liked....he was well-loved by virtually everyone that he came into contact with. Rick was an example to us all - not just about how to be an exceptional co-worker and friend, but how to be an exceptiona

Comments:Dear Kelly and Quinn It is with great sorrow to hear of Rick’s passing, please accept our heartfelt sympathies and sincere condolences for you and the entire Cunningham family. Rick was truly a great man full of love for his family, friends and life. I remember great times dating back to high school, cruising our cars on Whittier blvd, water skiing, parties, playing softball, camping and just getting together for a beer. Although, the past few years had been a tremendous struggle for all of you, I was inspired by Rick every time spoke to him. His positive attitude, determination and courageousness after all he had been through was truly remarkable. Although we morn our loss of a great friend, husband, father, son, or brother we can take solace in knowing he is no longer in pain, no longer fighting and in peace. Heaven has been blessed with his arrival as we have been blessed by knowing him.

Comments:Kelly and Quinn: Your family has been in my thoughts and prayers for a long time. When we saw each other last year, I felt an instant tug on my heart. Kelli, you've been so strong for so long and I know you will continue to be for Quinn. But I want you to know it's ok for you to show us how you feel and we can be strong for you. Please take advantage of all of us who love and care about you and Quinn. You know Rick would want you to have the safety of family and friends around you. I don't know if I ever told you that Rick always reminded me of one of my brothers, Marg's husband. Rick was a gentle, kind, caring person and I always felt an instant bond with him. I used to call him "Bro" and he reciprocated with "Sis". Rick has touched my heart and many others heart with his easy going personality and he will be missed dearly. I pray you find hope, strength, and if you need anything please rely on us. Bless you and Quinn, Love Monique, Rich, Kylie, Mac and Jake Langenwalter

There's a poem that I feel says it all: God Has Set Me Free Don’t hold me in your sorrow, Don’t shed those tears for me, I’ve found my heavenly tomorrow, God has set me free. I’m in a better place, I walk the streets of gold. I’m sheltered by God’s grace. I have His hand to hold. You never have to worry, I have everything I need. God made me happy, When my soul was freed. And when your days are over, We’ll surely meet again, We’ll share our love and laughter, When you get to heaven. 'Families ARE Forever.'

So many good memories...such as Rick's first U-turn with the RV in San Diego and the trip to AZ where we drove our rigs thru the tiny town of Jerome. Comments:Kelly & Quinn, Always celebrate Ricks life, you know better then I do what a wonderful person he was. I'm sure Heaven is an even better place with Rick there! Thank God he is no longer in pain and I know he is definitely not alone. He's watching over you and Quinn until you meet again. He would only want smiles as big as his. Rick was such a leader here at ADP in his job but most important he lead by being a great example of what a man, husband, father, and friend should be. Much love & friendship, Adrienne

Comments:Cunningham Family, We are so sorry. Kelly, Quinn and family, please know you are in our thoughs and in our prayers. Know that you are not completely alone in your sadness. When we heard that Rick lost his battle with the cancer, we felt a very deep sadness, especially when we think of Quinn. We will miss Rick's gentle smile. Sometimes we struggle to understand God's plan. We hope you find comfort knowing Rick is pain free and in a better place! I (Gil) will miss the haggling I would give Rick about Ducks being better than the Kings - always reminding him it would never be too late to convert to a Ducks Fan! I can imagine the Great Hockey team Rick must be assembling now! We know you will have the strength to get through this. Kelly, you are such a strong woman! We know that is why you were the love of Rick's life and he was lucky to have you and Quinn in his life! God bless you and let us know if you need ANYTHING - grocery shopping? A cake? A night out? Ducks

Comments:Rick was a good friend and an always smiling face at ADP. Whenever I would come around the corner, there was Rick with a smile on his face and always a positive word. Just before he came back to work after his 2nd round of surgery, I had a chance to take him to a Ducks game. He was so happy to be out and about. The evening was all about a great game, some small talk, and some cold beer. The Ducks broke a 5 game losing streak that nite so it made it even sweeter. It is a fond memory of a good friend. I will miss him dearly.

Comments:It makes me so sad that another wonderful person has been taken from this earth...God must have a better plan. Kelly I know you and Quinn will miss Rick terribly but the fact that you had him in your life for the time you did should give you comfort. There will never be a nicer guy! Rick was the nicest, friendliest guy I knew, he was always interested in what you had to say and always offered me a beer when I came to visit. Eventhough I hadn't seen him since he became sick I'll miss knowing he's not here.

We pray that God will comfort you during this time and always remind you that he's in a glorious place and out of pain. We will miss his smile, humor, laughter, gentle spriit, and his kindness. We have so many wonderful memories of Rick. Tom and I met at Rick and Mike's Downey apartment in a drinking contest (LOL) instigated by Rick, a night never to be forgotten by all of us. Even though we're divorced, we've stayed friends and have two wonderful children. Rick has a special place in all of our hearts. Even though his life was short, we Thank God for the blessing that he gave all of us in knowing and being his friend. Love, Donna, TJ, Kristy and Tom Childress

Comments:Dear Kelly, Quinn and family, I wish I could say something to ease the pain you are feeling, that we are all feeling. It was difficult to hear the news but he is now at peace and in no more pain.So in the days to follow you will not be alone, you will have family and an abundance of friends to help you through this.We will all share are favorite times with Rick. For me it would be when I called and he would say “Hey R-honda”. For Chuck it would be when he met Rick in the early 80s,he moved into the same apartments as Chuck. With his spiked hair, Bermuda shorts and his crates of hard core rock vinyl records. At one point Rick walked by Chucks’ apartment with a keg…and a friendship was created. For Jodi and Leslie he was like an uncle, always there always trying to make that 16th B-day, graduation or first car something special. We are truly blessed to have been apart of his life and we will always think of him. We love you Kelly and will always be here for you and Quinn. Love, Chuck, Rhonda

Comments:Kelly, Quinn, and Family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you as we pray for an end to Rick's pain and God's will for this situation. We have so many fond memories stretching over 2 decades of his friendship. Countless river trips, motorcycle trips, parties, weddings, and of course the many announcements of newborn children. Always an excuse for a party for something within the huge span of our many friendships that Rick is a big part of. The guy's day trips were always so memorable. It was always an adventure to see which one of the guys would come back needing a trip to the hospital, usually it was Tom, LOL, but then off they would go again as soon as the bodies were healed and bikes were fixed, all the time planning the next trip as the wounds were still healing. Then of course the women would hear all the "close call" stories by them at the next event gathering. The women looked forward to our time together too as they enjoyed boys day in the dirt. We have been so blessed to
